Tomato
Sustainable Practices Workbook
Latest Release is March 2007
The Processed Tomato Foundation (PTF) was organized in 1989 as
a joint partnership between California tomato growers and
processors to address food safety and environmental and sustainability
issues. The Foundation coordinates and focuses resources
to assure and enhance the viability of the industry for the
mutual benefit of consumers, the industry, and the environment.
Specifically, the Processed Tomato Foundation engages in the
following:
- Encourages research programs that address current
food safety, environmental and sustainability issues.
- Advances and promotes integrated pest management (IPM), a system
which requires flexibility in crop protection alternatives.
- Ensures accuracy and availability of information
and data to make scientifically and environmentally sound food
safety and crop management decisions and policy.
- Maintains and enhances the processing tomato industry's reputation
for quality and stewardship in crop production.
The PTF is a member of the U.S. EPA's Pesticide Environmental
Stewardship Program and was among the first recipients of the California Department of
Pesticide Regulation's IPM Innovator's Award.
